Edinboro, PA is a beautiful borough that offers its residents many opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. One popular outdoor activity is fishing due to the great opportunities for catching several fish species. Today, we’re looking at some of the best fishing spots within driving distance of Edinboro.

1. Edinboro Lake

One of the best places to fish in the Edinboro area is Edinboro Lake. There are three state-owned public boat accesses for this lake, Edinboro Lake Resort at 12670 Edinboro Rd, Lakeside Boat Ramp at 417 Lakeside Dr, and Thomas Lakeside Marina. Generally, you can expect to find Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, Muskie, and Largemouth Bass in this lake. However, Panfish and Trout can also be found here.

2. Presque Isle State Park

Presque Isle State Park at 301 Peninsula Drive is another great place to fish nearby. This 3,200-acre day-use park grants access to Lake Erie. Presque Isle Bay can also be found here. Some of the most common species of fish in Lake Erie are Trout, Perch, and Bass. Some of the most common species that live in Presque Isle Bay are:

  • Panfish
  • Muskellunge
  • Northern Pike
  • Smelt
  • Crappies

 

3. Erie Bluffs State Park

Erie Bluffs State Park is a 587-acre state park that features a mile of shoreline and access to Lake Erie. The main parking lot to the park is located at 11122 West Lake Road, and that’s where you’ll want to park if you want to enjoy such activities as wildlife watching, picnicking, hiking, hunting, or geocaching.

If you want to fish for Steelhead, you should park at 10990 West Lake Road. This parking lot is accessible 24 hours a day, and you can fish in Elk Creek or where Elk Creek meets Lake Erie. Typically, you can expect to catch large Rainbow Trout here between late fall and early spring.

4. Maurice K. Goddard State Park

Finally, you can’t go wrong fishing at Maurice K. Goddard State Park at 684 Lake Wilhelm Road. This 2,856-acre state park is home to Lake Wilhelm, a 1,680-acre warmwater fishery that contains many fish species. Some of the most common species you can find in this lake include Sunfish, Perch, Catfish, Bluegill, and Muskellunge. It is worth noting that if you park at the marina, you can find Rounded Point, an area that includes an ADA-accessible fishing pier.
