2022 Wagoneer vs Ford Expedition

If you’re in the greater Erie, Pennsylvania area and thinking about purchasing a three-row SUV, you’ve come to the right place! Here at Cunningham Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, we understand that choosing the right SUV is an important decision that requires you to weigh your options carefully. To help you in your search, we’ll be pulling together two popular options within the three-row SUV segment and highlighting a selection of each of their features to decide which one is the stronger option of the two. The first option is the 2022 Wagoneer, a premium SUV in a brand-new collection with features like a thorough safety package, a high-tech infotainment system, and genuine off-road capability. We’ll also be reviewing the 2021 Ford Expedition, a full-size SUV with a wide variety of options across its various trim levels. To learn more about each of these vehicles, and discover which one is best for you, continue reading below.

2022 Wagoneer Power & Handling

The 2022 Wagoneer really shines when it comes to power and capability. It features a 5.7-liter V8 engine paired with an 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. Its power output is rated at 392 horsepower and 404 lb-ft of torque, and it also boasts a whopping 10,000-pound maximum towing capacity when properly equipped. Rear-wheel drive is the standard for both of the Wagoneer’s two trim levels, but drivers can also opt for 4-wheel drive, in which case they have their pick of three robust 4X4 systems, the Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II. The Wagoneer also features the Quadra-Lift Air Suspension System which can lift the vehicle up to 10 inches, and help it ford up to 24 inches of water as well as providing an even and effortless drive.

2021 Ford Expedition Power & Handling

The 2021 Ford Expedition features five trim levels, with each one featuring the same 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Platinum model, Expedition’s highest trim level, has a boost in power which affords it 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. The other four trim levels have an output of 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. In terms of performance, the Expedition does not have any hybrid components like you’ll find on the Wagoneer, and its towing capacity is also a bit less robust at 9,300 pounds compared to the Wagoneer’s 10,000. One area where the two are similar is in their drivetrains, with the Expedition featuring standard rear-wheel drive, with 4-wheel drive as an option.

2022 Wagoneer Features & Design

The Wagoneer is a premium SUV that brings style and convenience to the forefront. It features standard Nappa leather-trimmed interior with seating for up to eight passengers, as well as many luxurious features like a 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 4G LTE Wi-Fi, and an available front-passenger display that adds a second touchscreen to the passenger’s side. The Wagoneer also has an acoustic windshield that helps reduce road noise, 12-way power-adjustable front seats with heat, ventilation, and massage, tri-zone automatic climate control, and customizable ambient interior lighting. It also has an impressive safety suite with features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and much more coming standard on both models.

2021 Ford Expedition Features & Design

The Ford Expedition is refined and practical both inside and out, though it admittedly does not put luxury at the forefront in the same way the Wagoneer does. First off, its base-level trim the XL only seats five passengers, while the other four models feature the 8-passenger seating capacity. Also, leather upholstery doesn’t join the lineup until you reach the third trim level, while the Wagoneer features standard Nappa leather from the get-go. Some features the Expedition does include are 4G LTE Wi-Fi, tri-zone automatic climate control, and LED exterior lighting. There are many safety features available throughout the Expedition lineup like lane-keeping assist and automatic high beams, though the standard package excludes adaptive cruise control which comes standard on the Wagoneer.

Conclusion:

Now that we’ve taken the time to highlight many of the features of each of these SUVs, ranging from performance and power to comfort and convenience, we feel that the number one option is clear. Between the 2022 Wagoneer and the 2021 Ford Expedition, we undoubtedly recommend the Wagoneer! It has managed to surpass the Expedition in every area, from its towing capacity, to technology, to its standard safety features.
