What engines come with the 2022 Jeep Cherokee?
Standard under the hood of the 2022 Jeep Cherokee is a 3.2L Pentastar V6 mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drivetrain. This system supplies drivers with 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. The optional 2.0L turbocharged I-4 delivers 270 horsepower and bumps the torque output up to 295 lb-ft. Of course, the Cherokee is available with Jeep’s legendary 4x4 capability in the form of three Active Drive systems, Active Drive, Active Drive II, and Active Drive Lock, which is exclusive to the Trailhawk trim. Each system is an on-demand 4x4 system. This means that the Cherokee will operate in front-wheel-drive on smooth, dry roads to maximize fuel economy. However, the system consistently monitors wheel spin to detect a loss of traction. In this case, the system will automatically shift into four-wheel drive. Instead of using a single-speed transfer case, Active Drive II uses a two-speed transfer case, giving the Cherokee 4-High and 4-Low modes. The Trailhawk’s Active Drive Lock has a rear axle locker to maximize off-road traction.
