2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vs Chevy Traverse

With so many SUVs out there on the market today, it can be hard to know which one will be best for you and your family. We here at Cunningham Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram want to help, which is why we have taken two of the best SUVs out there today in the Grand Cherokee L and the Chevy Traverse and compared their engine options and features. The Grand Cherokee L is new to the Jeep lineup this year, and it brings Jeep fans everything they love, including powerful engines, impressive tech, and the ability to go off-road. Meanwhile, the Chevy Traverse tries to counter with a solid V6 engine and Onboard Wi-Fi. Continue reading as we compare these two vehicles to see which one comes out on top!

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Power & Handling

When you lift the hood of the Grand Cherokee L, you will be greeted with one of two compelling engine options. Most trims will come with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that kicks out an excellent 290 horsepower and 257 lb-ft of torque while connecting to a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission. If you want an SUV with a ton of hauling power, you've come to the right place with the Grand Cherokee L, as the massive SUV can haul up to 6,200 pounds. If the V6 isn't enough power for you, you can opt for a 5.7-liter V8 that gives drivers 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque and also comes with the eight-speed automatic transmission. Towing power for the V8 is nothing short of impressive as it can haul up to 7,200 pounds which is the head of the class. If you want added traction, four-wheel-drive is an available option.

2021 Chevy Traverse Power & Handling

The Chevy Traverse tries to counter what the Grand Cherokee L offers with one solid engine option. It's a 3.6-liter V6 engine that pumps out 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque which comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive. Towing for the Traverse is acceptable as it can haul around 5,000 pounds, which is fine but less than what the Grand Cherokee L can offer you. We would be more impressed with the Traverse if it came with a V8 option, but unfortunately, this engine is all you get.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Features & Design

Four amazing trims are available for the Jeep Grand Cherokee L, and each one comes with a ton of advanced luxury, tech, and performance-enhanced features. The base trim is the Laredo which comes with a power driver’s seat, a digital gauge cluster, a manual liftgate, LED headlights, and 2nd-row captain’s chairs. There is also some advanced tech which includes the latest version of the Uconnect system, which has speeds that are five times faster than the previous version and has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and 12 USB ports. Moving up to the Limited brings in leather upholstery, heated power front seats, a power liftgate, and the Select-Terrain traction management system. You also get more goodies such as a heated steering wheel, a remote start system, heated side mirrors, and automatic high-beam headlights. The two highest trims are the Overland and the Summit, which bring you more luxury features and features for off-roading such as Nappa leather seats with quilted bolsters, massaging front seats, 4-zone automatic climate control, a McIntosh audio system, hill-descent control, front tow hooks. LED headlights, a navigation system, and more!

2021 Chevy Traverse Features & Design

With the 2021 Chevy Traverse, you get seven trim levels, but somehow not as many features. It starts things off with the L, which has 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, heated outside mirrors, cloth upholstery, triple-one climate control, and a 7-inch touchscreen with onboard WI-Fi and Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The LT Cloth adds to this with heated front seats, a power-adjustable power seat, remote engine start, an 8-inch high-definition touchscreen, and a power liftgate. Higher trims give you more luxury and tech items, including a heated steering wheel, blacked-out styling cues, LED headlights, a hands-free liftgate, heated and ventilated rear seats, and wireless device charging. Finally, at the top of the Traverses trim mountain is the High Country which rounds things out with a panoramic sunroof, several trailering enhancements, and a power-folding third-row seat.

Conclusion:

While there are a few things to be impressed with when it comes to the Chevy Traverse, we will give the victory to the Grand Cherokee L! The Grand Cherokee L comes with more impressive engine options and more available features, and the Traverse can't compete with it.
